What Your Christmas Tree Says About You....

Tuesday, December 15, 2009, 08:32 AM CST [General]

    REAL TREE versus ARTIFICIAL TREE:

According to the article, people who prefer real Christmas trees enjoy the outdoors, and they're trying to recreate the ambience of the woods inside their homes.

But people who like artificial trees are frugal.  They want something that will last for years, and they don't want to make a big fuss about it.  They also may be perfectionists who don't want to bother with gaps in the branches, or picking up needles.

    WHITE LIGHTS versus MULTICOLORED LIGHTS:

People who use white lights enjoy simplicity.  On the other hand, people who decorate their tree with multicolored lights do so because it's festive and they like to party.

    ASSORTED ORNAMENTS versus MATCHING ORNAMENTS:

People who decorate their tree with a variety of ornaments value their past and family history.  The idea is that, typically, each ornament has a special meaning or story behind it.  And, more often than not, the tree was decorated by a group of people.

But when a tree has matching ornaments, it means a single person decorated the tree with a specific vision of how it's supposed to look.  Put another way, people who decorate their tree to have a "theme" tend to prefer order and consistency.

    STAR versus ANGEL:

People who top their tree with a star tend to be idealists.  They also tend to make decisions more haphazardly . . . leaving their fate in the hands of "the universe."

Meanwhile, those who top their tree with an angel tend to be more religious, and they make decisions based on a Higher Power.

    Merry Christmas!

5 Things Your Mom Was RIGHT About

Thursday, December 10, 2009, 10:33 AM CST [General]

    1. Sit/Stand Up Straight

It's not only good for your health but it also exudes confidence and self assurance.

    2. Learn to take a compliment graciously

This one is tough. But important. We are somehow wired to think that if we disagree with the person complimenting us, we are showing humility. But Mom said it best: A “Thank you” works wonders on your self-esteem — as well as your manners — when it comes to accepting kind words.

    3. Kill Them with Kindness

Leave it to mom to remind you that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Historically a kind response to an unkind person is referred to as “heaping burning coals upon your enemy”. That’ll show em, right? This is a difficult morsel of wisdom to heed but I always feel better when I follow it.

    4. Write Thank You Notes

This one always gets me and my mom STILL has to remind me to do this. She used to withhold the Christmas cash from our Grandpa until we wrote thank you notes. Holding gifts hostage: only a mom would think of it. But I have never underestimated the power of a thank you note. I hope they never go out of style or practice.

    5. Don’t give up

My mom never let me quit. I tried quitting soccer, choir, and even my sorority freshman year. But she didn’t let me. With each season that I persevered, I looked back and was deeply grateful for the lessons I learned from each experience that I stuck with.

** Good advice for ALL moms!
