KS95 Artist Spotlight - Gavin Rossdale

Monday, September 15, 2008, 10:00 AM [Artist Spotlight]

You've heard Gavin Rossdale's song "Love Remains the Same" on KS95.

Gavin Rossdale is a lot more than just a rock star.  He's a husband to Gwen Stefani, father of two boys, movie actor and a great athlete who keeps busy playing the celebrity tennis circuit.   Add to all of that, the success of his first solo CD "Wanderlust" and I think you'll agree that things are going pretty well in Rossdale's world!

You may remember him from the band Bush.  Songs like "Everything Zen" and "Glycerine" were alternative hits back in the 90s.  After Bush split, Rossdale accepted several movie roles and formed another band called Institute.  Now with the release of Wanderlust, he adds another accomplishment to his resume.

You'd think that two successful musicians like Gavin and his wife, Gwen Stefani would team up on a project, but don't look for that to happen anytime soon.  Gavin says that he and his wife are very different artists and they don't want to combine their professional lives.

Check out the track listing and listen to a few clips from Wanderlust

    Artist Spotlight - Sara Bareilles

Wednesday, March 12, 2008, 08:27 PM [Artist Spotlight]

I first saw Sara Bareilles at The Varsity Theater in Minneapolis and my immediate impression was, “cool chick.” She’s a great piano player, really good singer and after hearing her perform the songs she wrote, struck me as the kind of person I’d like to hang out with. Sara is a Northern California native, former waitress, one-time UCLA student and self-described potty mouth!

Despite her tendency to use some colorful words, Sara has great lyrics. Her hit, “Love Song” probably isn’t about the subject you think! She says she wrote it in response to feedback she got from her record label after finishing her CD. They told her the project really needed a “love song.” Sara’s clever response was to write Love Song. Think about that the next time you hear the song and it takes on whole new meaning!

The second time I saw Sara was when she visited KS95 for an interview with Moon and Staci. Click here if you want to watch it. She was really fun and even humored Moon and played Love Song on the kazoo! I love the artists who don’t take themselves too seriously. After Sara’s visit, I found this on one of her web journals. This is what she said about her radio station visits…

“I then went on my radio promotion "EXTRAVAGANZA" which consisted of a whole bunch of flights across middle america and hotel rooms and in-stores and beautiful beautiful fans, and me singing Love Song over and over for people eating chicken. They weren't always eating chicken, just one time. But that was enough. I think extravaganza is a nice way to think about it.”

I’m proud to say that KS95 was not the radio station where people were eating chicken! I learned a long time ago that musicians hate it when you eat and clank your dishes while they’re playing for you!

Bottom line…Sara Bareilles is music lover who makes great music. Her CD “Little Voice” is a terrific first CD and I think we’ll hear a lot more from Sara!
