Valerie Bertinelli Mon. am, the book my wife loved

Sunday, April 13, 2008, 07:41 AM CST [General]

Granted, my wife Caley doesn't read many books - but this one she couldn't put down. And neither could her friends. Valerie joins Melissa and me Monday to discuss her marriage and divorce to Eddie Van Halen, her weight gain and loss, and what she has learned throguh all. Apparantly Valerie has a way to communicate through her words that makes you feel as if she is your best friend.

When I mentioned to Caley that we were going to talk to Valerie Bertinelli Monday morning and if she wouldn't mind writing out a couple of questions for me she wrote 27 of them. Melissa, who is reading the book right now  will have some terrific questions too and Valerie joins us at 7:10am. If you can't be up that early, we'll replay it for you around 8:30.

Since Caley has done most of my show prep for me I'll be watching this today -

    Go Tiger.

Thanks for reading my post. Join us for a lively interview with Valerie Bertinelli tomorrow morning and don't forget Birthday Bucks starts this week! Thanks for listening, have a great rest of your weekend and I'll see you on the radio!

Does Daughtry steal his songs from another band?!!

Saturday, April 12, 2008, 05:25 PM CST [General]

It may "Feel Like Tonight" to Chris Daughtry but The Asphalts have brought allegations of plagiarism against him. They even put together a snazzy video that samples both Daughtry's "Feels Like Tonight" and their own "Tonight" so you can listen for yourself.

Unfortunately for Daughtry, he apparently climbed in bed with a guy by the name of Dr. Luke to co-write "Feels Like Tonight." This, even though Luke has already settled in a similar case brought against him and Avril Lavigne for her single "Girlfriend," which bore an uncanny resemblance to a band called the Rubinoos' "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend."

Not sure if it's a total ripoff myself. However, the "hook" of the song is typically it's most identifiable portion and Daughtry sings "It Feels Like Tonight" a lot. I'm not sure how many different spins you can put on those four words when singing them, but one thing for sure....before Daughtry ever records another one of Dr. Luke's tunes I hope he asks, "Dude, are you sure you've never heard that before?"

Hmmmm. Ripoff or not, Daughtry's version sure is better! Have a great weekend and I'll see you on the radio!

Can you (or I ) stop complaining?

Monday, April 7, 2008, 04:57 PM CST [General]

Sometimes we need to vent, it's true. But I think if most of us could keep track of how much of our time we spend complaining and gossiping, we'd be surprised. I know I gripe and b*%^h enough and I know it rarely gets me anywhere.

Elementary school students in Raymond, Maine are trying to cut down on complaining at the school, so they've started a no-complaining plan. The plan: no complaining for 21 days.

Sounds simple enough, right? The third and fourth graders are all wearing wristbands and if and when they complain they have to move the wristband to the other arm and start counting all over again. Even the staff members were trying it and didn't have very good luck.

None of them made it the 21 days. A nonprofit organization called A Complaint Free World hands out the wristbands and other related items. According to the group, more than 5 million of the bracelets have been shipped to people in more than 80 countries.

This morning we didn't have the wristbands to remind us, but Melissa and I had a bet to not complain for the last 2 hours of our show today. The result? I won. Melissa started complaining about the high price of Minnesota Wild playoff tickets...and although she was right, she lost. So what is a world without a few complaints? Doesn't the squeeky wheel always get the grease? But I get why some schools and churches have jumped on the anti-complaining bandwagon - if all you do is complain, you'll become a negativity magnet. Complaining constantly will condition a pattern of behavior that will get you to think and act negatively. And we all know the world can use a few less people like that ....  not that I'm complaining!

Thanks for reading my blog and make sure you get up early and listen each weekday morning to the "Greg and Melissa Morning Show" on KS95...and I'll see you on the radio!
