Watch this before you celebrate the 4th of July!

Thursday, July 3, 2008, 09:31 AM CST [General]

Sometimes our patriotism needs a little kick in the behind. This is a classic routine from an American icon, Red Skelton. If you haven't seen it, enjoy. If you have, maybe it will stir your pride like it did mine.

Have a Happy and safe 4th. Thanks for listening to the Greg and Melissa Show on 94.5 KS95 and we'll see you Monday on the radio!

Get ready to eat nothing but square shaped food forever!

Tuesday, July 1, 2008, 09:28 AM CST [General]

Have you seen the new milk jugs at Costco? They're shaped more like the plastic milk crates the old milk cartons and bottles used to come in.

    OLD:                                      NEW:

The idea is to not waste space on store shelves and in the transportation of milk to the store. Save space, save or in this case, make money.

Now the Japenese have gotten into the act. How about square watermelon?!

Neat. So what's next? You can make some serious coin if you can invent some square-shaped foods. Square-shaped potatoes, oranges, cantalopes, carrots, heck...we shouldn't stop there. How about square turkeys and pies and square fish? And maybe it shouldn't stop at foods; square toilets and back to square cars and  square trampolines...anything round  will be easier and cheaper to ship, store, stock, and sell if it's square!

That is unless you can (like one of our listeners suggested)  first invent the round truck!

Sometimes square but usually good for a nice round start to your morning. Check out the Greg and Melissa Show weekday mornings from 5a-9am on 94.5 KS95. And I'll see you on the radio!

    Traveling?...Couch surf and save!!!

Tuesday, June 24, 2008, 09:23 AM CST [General]

This has morning show bit all over it!

Trade houses with listeners, air-staff, etc. Maybe even make it a competition?

     Traveling? Couch-Surf and Save!!!!!!!!!!

Some travelers wouldn`t dream of reserving a hotel room. They`d rather sleep on a stranger`s couch.

Now, I love couch surfing on a Saturday with a nice napping soundtrack like golf on the t.v., but I typically feel most comfortable doing that privately in my own home.

More than 575,000 folks are registered members of www.CouchSurfing.com. At the Web site, people can chat, view profiles and arrange trips based on whose couch is available for a night.

One central concept of CouchSurfing is a balance of giving and taking. While no member is required to host a surfer, it`s "good karma," to house a traveler if you plan to surf another`s couch one day.

One person says, "CouchSurfing just makes travel a better experience. It`s really what you make of it. It`s so easy to forge new relationships with people in places you`d never consider going."

Users call the CouchSurfing community hospitable, open and safe, but they give some advice: Use common sense and be responsible. Also read through the person`s profile and chat with the potential visitor a few times to get a sense of his or her personality. Uh, dah!!!

The community`s reference system, where members can leave positive or negative comments about their hosts or surfers, provides additional insight about the person requesting to stay with you.

Sounds not only creepy but incredibly potentially dangerous to me...but to leech their own.

    Believe it or not.... http://www.couchsurfing.com/

20 little things u can begin today to live better!

Thursday, June 19, 2008, 09:37 AM CST [General]

Here's the complete list from the topic we discussed on the show this morning.  My simple purpose for putting this on my blog is this:  I hope I save your life...and then you can thank me forever by listening to our show. This list comes from my favorite magazine Men's Health. If you buy a subsciption maybe they won't get mad at me for reprinting this without their permission. Did I say what great loving people they seem to be at Men's Health as well?

Greg and Melissa is heard weekday moanings 5-9am on 94.5 KS95...thanks for listening and I'll see you on the radio!

    Here  we go:

    1. Decorate Your Plate

A 14-year study found that men whose diets were highest in fruits and vegetables had a 70 percent lower risk of digestive-tract cancers. Never eat a meal that doesn't contain a vegetable or fruit.

     2. Dry-Brush Your Teeth

It cuts tartar by 60 percent and also reduces the risk of bleeding gums by half. Use a dry, soft brush to scrub the insides of your top and bottom teeth, then buff the outer surfaces. Rinse, spit, and brush briefly with toothpaste.

     3. Never Skip Breakfast

A survey of more than 2,000 people who lost an average of 67 pounds and kept the weight off for more than 5 years found that 78 percent ate breakfast 7 days a week.

     4. Eat More Pasta

Two to four servings of tomato sauce a week can cut your prostate-cancer risk by 34 percent.

    5. Judge Cholesterol With Contact Lenses

A diet full of fat, protein, or alcohol weakens your tears' ability to block cholesterol from adhering to the lenses. This results in cloudy deposits. If your diet is destroying your contacts, just imagine what it's doing to your arteries.

     6. Go Fishing Once A Week

Eating one serving of fish per week can halve your risk of a sudden fatal heart attack. The secret ingredient in fish is omega-3 fatty acids. Salmon is especially high in them.

     7. Protect Your Erection With Blueberries

They contain compounds that improve circulation, and they're loaded with artery-scrubbing soluble fiber. Eat your berries fresh or in a smoothie three times a week.

     8. Request The Chilean Red

To reduce your risk of cancer, drink red wine from Chile. Chilean cabernet sauvignon is 38 percent higher than French wine in flavonols, which are antioxidants that plunder cancer-causing free radicals.

     9. Lend A Hand

Men who do volunteer work at least once a week have half the death rate of those who don't.

     10. Crunch Away Back Pain

Seventy-five percent of all lower-back problems can be prevented by building your abdominal muscles. Aim for a dozen crunches every day.

    11. Order Thin-Crust Pizza

It has a third fewer calories than thick-crust pie. Blot the cheese with a napkin to cut even more fat.

      12. Skip That Second Cup

The caffeine in 2 cups of coffee adds 16 beats per minute to your heart rate.

     13. Save Your Marriage

An unhappy one increases your chance of getting sick by 35 percent and shortens your life expectancy by 4 years.

     14. Exercise Depression Away

Exercising for 40 minutes can reduce stress. In fact, studies show that working out on a regular basis can be as effective as taking antidepressants like Prozac.

     15. Fall Asleep With Cherries

Cherries and cherry juice are concentrated sources of melatonin, a popular over-the-counter sleep aid.

     16. Put A Shoe On Your Pillow

It'll determine whether your pillow supports your head and neck adequately. Fold the pillow in half and put a shoe on top; if the pillow springs back, it's okay.

    17. "Kur" Your Fatigue

If you wake unusually early, dampen a towel with cool water and lightly wipe your arms, legs, and torso, then go back to bed. The body is very warm when it comes out of REM sleep. Back in bed, the body heats up even more. The result is a deep, restful sleep and more dreams. Called kur, this technique is standard at European spas.

     18. Raise Your Rearview

To prevent slouching (and the resultant lower-back pain) on long drives, tilt your rearview mirror up a bit. That way, you'll have to sit up to see the cars behind.

     19. Take Vitamin E And Aspirin Daily

Researchers have found that this antioxidant-and-blood-thinner combination can reduce arterial plaque by 80 percent. The benefit of the two treatments together is so great that it may help men prevent atherosclerosis even if they can't lower their cholesterol levels.

     20. Have A Banana

The potassium it contains can lower blood pressure. One per day is all it takes.

KG reminds us that our local pro teams are weak.

Wednesday, June 18, 2008, 09:40 AM CST [General]

The Celtics won the NBA championship last night and below is a clip of KG after the victory.

Thanks KG...we are happy you remembered us back here in Minnesota when you said, "This is for Sota!" That was cool. We wish we could have won the championship with you, but you made us feel special for 12 years and again last night in Boston. Well done. And as you said KG, you are "certified".

It feels good to win a championship. It's been awhile around here though hasn't it?  The Wild are yet to do it; the Vikings are going on 50 years without a Superbowl win; the Timberwolves are horrid, and it's now been almost 17 years since the Twins won a World Series.

Time now for one of our sports teams to step up, and please let's not make that championship in indoor soccer or pro lacross (heck, I don't even know how to SPELL it) or women's basketball, sorry Lynx.

After our winter, after losing a great athlete like KG, the Love Boat scandal, and nearly two decades of almosts and .500 ball by every major sports franchise...it's time for one of you to bring Minnesota home a World Championship. Let's get 'er done!
